So I've been shifting without my clutch lately

Tuesday night, one of my good buddies explained how to do it (I had watched videos about it before, but couldn't quite get the sense of it), and I've been giving it a whirl the last couple days.

I'm able to upshift pretty successfully. I've probably done it now 20 or 30 times, and have only missed my RPM twice maybe?

I've even tried downshifting a couple times, and I think I missed my RPM once there too.

All in all though, it's kind of a fun thing to learn, and could, theoretically, come in handy one day. As a bonus, my transmission hasn't made even the slightest blip of complaint yet. I guess my synchros are still good :)

EDIT

Ok, you guys have made some fine points, and convinced me that it's probably a bad idea. So I'll stop. I think there are rare situations where being able to do this COULD come in handy, but largely, pushing in the clutch isn't exactly hard, and apparently is way better for your tranny (even if you can shift without the clutch perfectly every time).

Also, accelerating through the gears is slow af when shifting this way. Every time you pull the car out of gear, you have to wait a second for your flywheel to slow down to the right speed. My flywheel is still pretty hefty I guess, because it takes a couple seconds.

I do it from time to time. Its not so great for your syncros. I wouldn't recommend it.

Yeah, just don't do it so much you wear down your synchos (assuming this is in a car). If it's a bike or the like with dog teeth, do it as much as you please.

I did that on accident a few times in my jetta. I downshifted to pass someone and when I went to shift back into fifth I realized a few seconds after getting into gear that I never touched the clutch.

This is really quite bad for any modern transmission (and by modern I mean post 1970's)

I was going to ask "Why?" until I read your last paragraph. Still not sure why one would want to do it, except to say they know how.

Why, may I ask, is it bad for the synchros? I'm not slamming it into gear, and it doesn't grind...If I'm not crashing the gears, what's the big deal?

I'm legitimately curios. The transmissions for my engine aren't cheap, and I'd rather not have to replace it...like ever if possible.

Driving old busses and trucks I was forced to do this all the time. I'd never do it in a passenger car...it's more difficult, less smooth, and for what?

The snycros aren't designed to transmit torque, since the clutch pulls the load off all they have to handle is the momentum of the shaft. it only takes a few bad shifts to really gnaw at the syncros. It works most of the time, but the few times it doesn't

For fun and profit. For that time one of the bolts falls out of your clutch pedal bracket while you're upshifting on the freeway (this happened to me once. Pedal went slack. I was stranded immediately because I couldn't do this).

No reason other than that it CAN be done, and is kind of fun to learn.
